The “Nukkekääty” or “Doll chain” necklace was designed by Kirsti Ilvessalo in 1947 as an entry for design competition held by Kalevala Koru. It did not win the competition but impressed Kalevala Koru sufficiently to take on production. She is best known for her textiles and wall rugs, an example of her work is in the V&A. She also worked for 20 years in charge of textiles  in Alvar Aalto’s office.
