Description
William Spratling, a silver and azurmalachite pendant necklace, Mexico, circa 1950, stamped ‘Spratling De Mexico’ encircling ‘Sterling’ and Eagle 13 mark, overall length 46 cm length of pendant 9 cm SOLD
The necklace dates from the second design period (1949-1951) of William Spratling. This being after a trip to Alaska at the behest of the American government to set up workshops akin to those established by Spratling in Mexico. It never came to fruition. However, it did provide William Spratling with inspiration for some 200-300 new designs. These he produce at his own Ranch, as in this example. He also entered into an ill fated agreement with Conquistador in Mexico to produce items in this range also. (See the William Spratling brooch in archive for further information on this.)
