Description
Relo, a pair of silver rhodium plated cufflinks, Austria, circa 1974, stamped ‘Relo‘, ‘925’ and with Austrian control marks, 2 cm across SOLD
Relo were an Austrian company producing jewels in the 1960’s and 70’s. It is interesting to note the influence in the design of this piece of Lapponia and their cutting edge main designer Bjorn Weckstrom from Finland.
Plating of silver items with Rhodium, one of the platinum group of metals, was done with the idea that it would prevent the tarnishing process that silver naturally undergoes when reacting with sulphur in the atmosphere, thus negating the need to keep cleaning them.
