John Baldwin was studying at Loughborough in the mid 1960’s when it was visited by Ernest Blyth as a guest lecturer. After meeting and talking to John Ernest Blyth offered him a 2 week placement at his London studio. At the end of the 2 weeks Blyth offered John a full time job working for him. Taken aback John accepted and worked for Ernest Blyth for three years before striking out on his own. John Baldwin went on to design and make jewellery for HM Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Margaret, Prince Charles, and celebrities such as Ray Davies, Mary Quant, and made the wedding rings for Lenny Henry and Dawn French. John passed away in October 2023, but his son James still runs the Baldwin shop in Tavistock.
