Edwardian agate and diamond gold and platinum Comet brooch, circa 1910 SOLD

Edwardian blue grey agate and diamond gold and platinum Comet brooch, circa 1910, unmarked gold with platinum front to the knife edge bar, rose cut and old single cut diamonds, caged catch, later fitted safety chain, steep cabochon agate approximately 11 mm diameter and 7.9 mm high, overall length 5 cm SOLD

Comet jewellery was prompted in the 19th century by scientific interest and the 1835 appearance of Halley’s Comet. So it was again with the comets reappearance in 1910, and that might well have been the inspiration for this brooch. Halley’s Comet is next due to appear in 2062.
