Christopher Lawrence, Britannia standard silver Bank of England 300 years commemorative dish, Sheffield 1994, stamped with the Bank’s own mark of Britannia 1694, ‘CNL‘ for Christopher Lawrence, the Sheffield Rose mark, the Britannia mark denoting 958 standard of silver, higher than the sterling standard of 925, and the date letter U for 1994, 11 cm by 9.5 cm, 61 g gross SOLD

Commissioned by the Directors of the Bank of England to present to staff and pensioners of the bank to commemorate the founding of the Bank of England on the 27th July 1694.

Christopher Lawrence designed and made the dish with Paget’s 1930 figure of Britannia to the centre, overlaid on a representation of the cross of St George taken from the shield of the 1694 Britannia. The border of laurel leaves having a rose at each of the quarter points.
